OpenGate offers a set of features to help

build,

deploy, and

maintain

M2M infrastructures, since the beggining with develoment tools and the middleware, trhough the provisioning and maintenance processes.

OpenGate is designed to support a high number of devices, integrating business processes and network data, being part of the IT solutions.

Know everything about your M2M devices, from manufacturer to IMEI

detalleinventario

With OpenGate OSS you can keep track of your inventory of devices, in order to have full control over which are deployed, whouch ones are having troubles, where they are installed.

The information is automatically retreived through several mechanisms:

  • Using OpenGate agents
  • Integrating OpenGate with your mobile operator
  • Implementing OG's protocol (coming soon)

The information avaiable for each device, depeding on the integration, is:

  • Manufacturer
  • Model
  • IMEI
  • IMSI
  • Software and firmware version

Alternatively, we can adapt OpenGate to any other information your devices may need.

Monitor the health of your M2M devices, and control that your solution is working properly

ossMonitoring2

Your M2M solution will rely on the M2M devices, modems or routers, becoming these part of your communications infrastructure.

With OpenGate you can control if your M2M devices are working properly, and integrate alarmas with third party monitoring solutions through SNM or SOA or similar interfaces.

OpenGate will monitor:

  • Device Location: LBS or GPS
  • Device Presence: IP / GPRS / GSM
  • Battery
  • Coverage
  • Temperatur
  • eAny parameter provided by your device, and adapted for you

Update remotely the software and configuration of your M2M devices

ossConfiguration

You can easily upgrade the configuration of your devices:

  • Software: applications
  • Firmware: depending on the device
  • Configuration: behaviour config files

While supporting several manufacturersin the same interface, it will be as easy as to make a bundle, select the devices, upgrade...instantlly or programming massive batch upgrades.

OpenGate will send several types of notifications to allow controlling the status of the upgrades.

Once updated, the M2M Inventory module allows verifying each single upgrade task to check consistency. OpenGate will launch alarms if it detects changes in devices' configuration, or failed upgrades.

What is an M2M device for OpenGate?

An M2M device for OpenGate is any communication device used for wireless access to remote sitesRouters or gateways are the basic M2M devices, and advanced devices are wireless modems with CPU or Java machine inside.

How is OpenGate controlling the Inventory?

There are three different ways.

  1. With the OpenGate Agent running inside the M2M device, getting all the information
  2. With an embedded application implementing the OG protocol
  3. With an integration with the mobile operator

How often does OpenGate update the inventory information?

Inventory is first retreived at the first connection of the device. Then its updated every certain configurable time, and alarms are raised if changes are detected.

Is the configuration module capable of updating the firmware?

Only for those devices that have thiscapability. OpenGate enables file transfer and update process tracking, and the embedded application has to execute the update task

Is this compatible with every M2M device?

There are different levels of compatibility, depending on the kind of M2M device mentioned above. If OpenGate doesn't have compatible Agent for a specific device model, ask us for possible migrations

I'm not a Telco. How do I get full information from OpenGate?

If there is no connection with the Telco infrastructure, then OpenGate will get information the following way:

  1. Running OG Agents in your device
  2. Implementing in your device our OG protocol
  3. Implementing in our platform a Connector with your protocol

What Remote Operations are available for my M2M devices?

Basic operations are Reset Communications and Reset Device. Specific commands can be added to supports your device, and the Operations workflow will still be valid if the OG protocol is met.

Seamless and open integration for embedded devices: intelligent communication

MiddlewareAPIs

OpenGate APIs allow devices to exchange information efficiently and reliably with M2M applications while introducing capabilities like automatic communication link management, message transmission, file transfer management, etc.

OpenGate provides APIs for:

  • OWASYS OWA22x
  • OWASYS OWA21x
  • Wavecom Wismo Quick Q2406B / Q26 OpenAT
  • Cinterion TC65  Java Micro Edition
  • Motorola G24  Java Micro Edition

For generic devices, we provide generic Transactional APIs for Linux, Win32, Java, and J2ME. The difference with the previous is the device-specific calls to handle hardware. These APIs only implement the funcitons for serializing and sending information through a TCP/IP connector.

Integrate backoffice applications with your devices and implement the logic you need

OpenGate provides several mechanisms to allow integration with you backoffice applications. These integration capabilities are:

  • WebServices
  • SNMP
  • JMS
  • APIs
  • Database
  • SMTP

Isn't this a message queue system?

OpenGate behaves like a message queuing system, but adding functionallities adapted to the wireless channels, like protocols optimization, agents, APIs, low overhead remote mechanisms, etc.

How many devices does OpenGate support?

OpenGate may support up to as many devices as your hardware infrastructure is designed for. We manage this by being compatible with top level base software, accepting infastructure configurations in  cluster, farms, module distribution, etc.

How does the APIs work?

The API provides functions for sending and receiving messages, connecting and disconnecting, receiving notifications... Just include the library into your project, configure to your platform, and start sending and receiving. This is valid for both sides of the solution.

Are the APIs available for every device type?

No, because we have to migrate to every device. We currently support a set of devices (specific models), and we can migrate (if needed and possible) to a different platform. As an alternative, you can use the generic Linux and Java APIs.

Can I send messages to/from several devices and applications?

Yes. We can show you how to organize OpenGate messaging in organizations and channels, and be able to send broadcast to entire channels or sets of devices.

What is the diference between the OG APIs and the OG Agents?

OG Agents are APIs with functions to control hardware, for instance for starting automatically the GRPS connections, detecting dropping connections, etc. The standalone APIs are only used for sending and receiving (internal serialization and persistence), and you taking care of starting communications at low-level.

Can I use my device's protocol without using OG APIs?

Yes. In this case you should use the Connectors APIs. The applications integrating will not notice the difference, in term of the OG interface.

Is the OpenGate protocol a standard protocol?

No. It's not a standard protocol because we didn't find anyone that met our requirements of very-low overhead and security. In any case, OG's protocol is based on XDR.

Is the OpenGate protocol an open protocol?

Is not open yet, but it will be on future releases. Opening this protocol will allow you implementing your own agent or APIs in your device.

M2M Line Management

Automatically retrieve and synchronize with external provision information

OpenGate will retreive and monitor inventory information, allowing the system to retrive initial referential information about devices.

The process to bring into OpenGate provisioning information may come, at the same time, from different sources:

  • From SOA integration with CRM or referential databases, creating specific Adaptors for each source
  • From OpenGate agents that send through the air all the information needed regarding provisioning
  • From Protocol Connectors created ad-hoc for each kind of device, adating through the Connectos API

This Autoprovisioning feaure allow users:

  • Fast deployments of communication devices
  • Reliable information due to minimization of manual processes
  • Integration with existing and/or master sources of information

OpenGate allows users to self activate and de-activate M2M subscribers and devices

Self-Care implies that the end-users has the tools, and the ability, to add, delete or modify by himself, the lines or devices in his deployment. This will help service providers to lower the resources needed to provide support to end customers, mainly where is directly related to customer's core business.

Specially in big deplyments, end users will work in groups of hundreds of SIM cards, or M2M devices at the same time, which means coordinating installation work forces, IT department, and service providers.

Self-care and activation is managed with OpenGate features and:

  • Integration with customers' CRMs and ERPs
  • Integration with Mobile Operator' CRMs
  • Integration with Mobile Operators' Provisioning systems

Analize and consolidate information of subscribers, carriers and applications

In an M2M environment there will be different types of behaviours when sending and receiving data, that can be grouped depending on the types of messages, the carrier used or the monthly usage of the line.

OpenGate analyces the traffic of the different devices and subscribers when using OpenGate Connectors. Then traffic information will be grouped, per customer, into:

  • Traffic per line and device
  • Traffic per Application
  • Number of messages per application
  • Number of messages per device
  • Number of messages per type of message

This information is transformed into a readable format (CDR like), called Pre-Billing, that is delivered to the Billing Platforms of the mobile operator to be processesd with according tariffs, or to the customer in order to do traffic analisys and invoice consolidation.

Industries

M2M Platform for Telcos, from connectivity to self-care, integrating BSS and network.

og4telecoms

M2M services offered by Telco Operators have to be based on a platform integrated with its infrastructure. The goal is to integrate OpenGate M2M Platform in order to provide full end to end services, from connectivity to self-care, integrating both BSS and network servers.

OpenGate installed as an M2M Platform for Telcos provides:

  • Connectivity service model, with SLAs, traffic management, APIs...

OpenGate provides with the infrastructure and basic GPS embedded agent, that will send and store in database real time information of GPS, geofences alarms, start/stop events and ignition events. At the same time, OpenGate will provide an open database schema for reporting and integration with corporate systems.

OpenGate can be used in any industry which uses communication devices to access remote sites, or to enable wireless solutions

Healthcare

M2M applied to healthcare allows offering service to people that needs health monitoring. An e-Health solution will help hospitals and insurance companies increase capacities on monitoring of patiens, while decreasing costs in visits and hospitalizations.

OpenGate will provide secure and reliable communication issues with health monitoring devices, and communication device management integrated with business processes and IT systems.

Automotive

Vehicle manufacturers are looking for ways to provide new services to customers, and one of the lines is to use internet based solutions in the vehicle. This technologies are allowing the introduction of new services like eCall to emergency services, remote maintenace planning, or insurance fee reductions.

OpenGate will act as a bridge between services and vehicles, providing interfaces to business applications, and giving management information to allow keeping track of all the devices deployed. Thanks to OpenGate's support for roaming, all the business services may be provided in many countries in a centrilized manner.

Public Sector

In the Public Adminsitration it is typical to have a single department providing wireless communications and infrastructure to the rest. All the departments will have the same way to integrate the applications, no matter who is using it, its purpose, the developer in charge of it, or the language it's programmed in.

OpenGate helps to keep track and manage all the communication devices (mobile or M2M), centralizes and coordinates the communications, allowing a reduction in infraestructures (otherwise it would be duplicated). At the same the cost of deployment would be reduced, and the time of development and getting running the solution dramatically reduced.

Security

Security services are enhances with the use of wireless communication devices, allowing the inclusion of services in remote places without complex installations.

OpenGate will manage all the communication devices, in order to check failures and prevent false alarms, and will allow simple implementation of solutions based on wireless communications.
